Warcrow – New Fantasy Wargame: Miniatures, Lore & More

Step into the World of Warcrow with our fully painted miniatures.

Have you heard of Infinity, the most popular wargame from Corvus Belli?

We assume you do, since Infinity has been on the market for 20 years and features stunning cyberpunk style models. If you’re into sci-fi vibes with hardcore gameplay, you probably like it too.

But what if you’re not a fan of huge rulebooks and guys pumped with metal and electronics running around?

Corvus Belli had this thought in mind. And they started cooking.

The effect?

Warcrow.

What is Warcrow?

Well, it depends on what we are looking at.

From a lore perspective, Warcrow introduces the world of Lindwurm, a fantasy setting where magic has reappeared. Sometimes it’s a good thing; other times, not so much. A mysterious red fog spreads across the land, creating magical abominations. Of course, all the factions of Lindwurm are affected by the reappearance of magic – mostly in a violent way. In the Warcrow universe, everyone dislikes everyone, and thus we have a tabletop wargame.

Wait, Orcs can grow beards?

So, what type of wargame is Warcrow? As we mentioned earlier, Corvus Belli took a different approach compared to Infinity, offering much simpler mechanics, smaller-scale battles, and a lot less to remember during gameplay. Of course, it’s still a wargame, complete with a rulebook and all, but it offers a much easier entry point compared to other games. Additionally, the game introduces something original, called ‘Events’ in the rulebook. These can completely change the game! Remember the fog from the lore? It can appear in the game, turning the tide for every player.

Let’s have a sneak peak of what factions are, and will be available.

Factions in Warcrow

Currently, Warcrow features three playable factions, with more on the horizon:

The Syennan: The Great Forest Goes to War

A Legacy of Defense, A Future of Attack

In Warcrow the Syennan are the inheritors of an ancient pact, the sworn guardians of the Great Forest.

For generations, they used guerrilla tactics to defend their enchanted home. But the world is closing in. Feudom fanatics want to carve up their sacred trees for spearhafts, the Embersig Empire plans to occupy their groves, and the crimson Fog creeps at the edges, birthing monsters.

The days of a passive defense are over. The new generation of Syennan has decided the best way to protect their home is to go on the hunt. The warbands you see on the tabletop are the result of that decision: merciless hunting parties sent to purge their enemies and reclaim the lost relics of their past. They are the forest’s immune system, and the infection is being dealt with.

Hegemony of Embersig

A young and expansionist empire. Strong Nilfgaard vibes from ‘The Witcher’ series (or other violent empires that use black as the primary armor color).

Here’s how we painted them: black armor with gold elements. To add contrast, we gave them slightly brighter lower parts than what you can see in the official Corvus Belli images. Higher-ranked units also received red elements, giving off ancient Rome vibes.

Northern Tribes

Composed mostly of sentient non-human beings, primarily Orcs. There are some lion-like species, as well as humanoids resembling the figures from James Cameron’s ‘Avatar.

In the world of Lindwurm, green-skins are… more intelligent compared to those in other universes. They look like orcs who met Vikings at some point and adopted their appearance. That was our inspiration for painting the Northern Tribes: metal armor painted with a dark wash, complemented by leather base shirts to contrast the overall dark tone. Additionally, we gave them snowy bases to resemble their place of origin.

These factions are currently available to play, but more are on the way.

Corvus Belli recently teased the next faction coming to Warcrow: the Syenann, a wood elf variant within the Warcrow universe.

Beyond Winds from the North, and other expansions

Additionally, we had the opportunity to paint all currently available add-ons for the two existing armies. Check them out below.

Beyond Winds from the North

A full expansion for the Hegemony of Embersig and Northern Tribes armies. The entire set includes six miniatures, which you can see fully painted.

The Hegemony miniatures needed to match the rest of the army. You know, the empire doesn’t like to stand out, so black and gold set the tone.

We took a more relaxed approach to painting the Tribes’ Skin Changers. They are a wilder bunch, and we think we captured that with our painting.

There are dwarves in Lindwurm as well.

Bulwarks, Tundra Marauders and Officers

Bulwarks are the defenders of the Hegemony, known for their unwavering discipline and ability to hold the line against overwhelming odds. TThe first thing you notice is their golden shields and pointy spears. We also added wooden shafts to create subtle contrast to the overall metallic aesthetic.

For the Tundra Marauders, we painted them to closely match the main Northern Tribes army. The biggest difference, of course, is their deep blue skin color (darker than the Skin Changers) and the addition of cool blue highlights to their armor.

Both sides received officers as well. These (naturally) resemble their army of origin but have some personal features, such as different weaponry (the Orc whip rules) and clothing. All painted with care, of course.

Ahlwardt Ice Bear, Marhael the Refused and the Darkmaster

These are the only standalone miniatures released by Corvus Belli for Warcrow so far. So, we painted them a bit differently, setting aside the factions’ overall styling.

A legendary leader among the Northern Tribes, Ahlwardt embodies the perfect balance between raw primal power and calculated strategic command. He’s also a cute kitty (think Khajiit with wares, but bulkier), so we spent most of our time on fur care.

Marhael received blue clothing with a green coat flowing on his back. Remember the white and blue striped bottoms on the other Embersig soldiers? We believe that’s what lies beneath their armor. The most noticeable part of the miniature is the magical arc of his blade, which features highlights and a touch of green overlay.

The Darkmaster sits on the opposite end of the shading spectrum, with a lot of darker tones. Most of his armor and its additions resemble other elements of the Tribes. To highlight his specialty in magic, we spent a lot of time on the smoke effect behind him. We used a stippling method to give some texture to his magical violet smoke.

Battle-Scarred and Aggressors

Recently we got some new additions to both existing armies in a form of 4 miniatures. Battle-Scarred and Aggressors are infantry units, ready to join the battlefield. Both of the expansions have the same aim: to tank and fight with multiple units at once.

Warcrow: Adventures Miniatures

Warcrow: Adventures is a stand-alone game with narrative campaign missions for 2-4 players. The best part? You can use these minis in normal Warcrow wargame!

Right now with Syennan faction revealed at Adepticon 2025, this is great way of aquiring some of the heroes for upcoming factions.

Miniatures from Warcrow: Adventures

Ice Archers and Varank Supports

Ice Archers are the ranged backbone of Northern Tribes forces – they can fire over their allies, so they don’t need to be on the front lines. Smart tactical positioning that lets you pepper enemies with arrows before they reach your main battle line.

Varank Supports include Selika the Tattooist, who can slow multiple targets simultaneously and increase the firing rate of Ice Archers she joins. She also heals and removes negative statuses from allies.

Black Legion Arquebusiers and Black Legion Supports

The Hegemony’s Black Legion Arquebusiers represent the empire’s technological advancement – 4 miniatures armed with early firearms.

Black Legion Supports feature Ansera Noighman, an Engineer who specializes in improving ally performance with immunity to unarmed and vulnerable statuses. She can join different units and provide customized buffs based on their needs.

Warg Riders and Revenant

Warg Riders are highly offensive cavalry that shows the aggressive spirit of orcs – with “Rabid” and high attack rolls making them lethal when they charge. They’re very fast, so enemies must quickly deal with the threat they pose.

The Revenant becomes more dangerous the more damage he accumulates, easily reaching and defending objectives since he’s immovable and fearless. When he takes damage, his offensive capacity inceases even when defending, and he specializes in attacking Large units and Cavalry.

Mounted Hetman, Strategos, and Black Angels Cavalry

The Mounted Hetman is agile and determined with overwhelming presence – her mobility lets him keep stress at bay and restore VOL to allies when needed. When riding alongside Black Angels cavalry, she enhances their ability to break enemy morale during charges.

Strategos is a support unit with great tactical impact, allowing you to adjust round duration, activate units consecutively, and almost guarantee initiative early in battle.

Black Angels are highly offensive cavalry – swift in their charge with high attack rolls that make them lethal. The enemy must respond quickly to their threat.
