Defend the West German Frontier with Team Yankee
Team Yankee, a tabletop miniatures wargame from Battlefront Miniatures, lets you recreate the tense armored battles of World War III, based on the fictional Cold War gone hot scenario from the Harold Coyle novel of the same name.
In this post we want to present to you the West German army for this game. This is also one of the largest armies we have ever painted for a historical wargame. It contains 74 Infantry bases, 8 Aircrafts and 65 Tanks!
Due to its scale, it demands a lot of patience and experience to paint, but here we are to cover you! Contact us and make your dream army live!
West German Formations and Units
- Tanks:
- The new Leopard 2A5 Panzer Kompanie boasts heavily armored tanks with a powerful 120mm cannon.
- The classic Leopard 2 offers excellent firepower with a slightly less robust armor profile.
- The Leopard 1, a mainstay of West German armored brigades, provides maneuverability and a potent 105mm gun.
- Infantry:
- Panzergrenadier Züge are small, well-armed mechanized infantry units carried in Marder IFVs or M113 APCs.
- Fallschirmjäger Kompanie represents West Germany’s helicopter-borne infantry.
- Gebirgsjäger Kompanie allows you to field elite mountain troops.
- Jäger Kompanie lets you deploy reserve light infantry formations.
- Recon:
- Luchs Späh Trupp utilizes fast and agile eight-wheeled armored cars for scouting.
- Fuchs Panzeraufklärungs Kompanie employs armored personnel carriers to transport infantry for reconnaissance.
- Support:
- A variety of options are available, including LARS and MARS rocket launchers for devastating bombardments, Roland and Gepard anti-aircraft vehicles to dominate the skies, PAH anti-tank helicopters for taking down enemy armor, and Tornado aircraft for close air support.
Scenarios
World War III: West German includes three exciting scenarios to test your West German army’s mettle:
- At the Forward Edge of Battle: A Marder PanzergrenadierKompanie must hold off the initial Soviet assault to buy time for a tactical retreat.
- Delaying Attack: A daring Leopard 2 Panzer Kompanie spearheads an advance to disrupt a Soviet attack, giving friendly forces time to prepare their defenses.
- Surprise Attack: A bold maneuver by a Leopard 2 Panzer Kompanie aims to exploit a gap in Soviet lines and strike a vulnerable enemy force.
Key Differences from Leopard Book
If you’re already familiar with Leopard, the core rulebook for Team Yankee, here are the significant additions in World War III: West German:
- Six new formations: Leopard 2A5 Panzer Kompanie, Marder 2 Panzergrenadier Kompanie, Leopard 2 Panzeraufklärungs Kompanie, Fallschirmjäger Kompanie, Gebirgsjäger Kompanie, and Jäger Kompanie.
- Three formations from the Panzertruppen booklet: Leopard 1 Panzer Kompanie, M113 Panzergrenadier Kompanie, and Fuchs Panzeraufklärungs Kompanie.
- Increased flexibility in unit composition, with options for additional Marder transports, M3 teams, and Carl Gustav anti-tank rockets.
- Restructured Panzer Kompanie formations with multiple Panzer Zug tank units.
- More granular choices for deploying anti-aircraft and artillery batteries.
- Updated Milan missile mounting rules for Marder IFVs.
