3 Awesome Custom Chaos Knights Commissions

You hear that grinding of corrupted metal? That’s the sound of Imperial Knights that chose a different path.

Chaos Knights represent one of the most dramatic falls in the 40k universe. Massive war machines once served the Emperor with unwavering loyalty, and now they march for darker powers, with hulls twisted by warp influence and with pilots consumed by ambition or madness.

We’ve painted quite a few Chaos Knights commissions in our studio history, and each is very unique!

From converted Knight Rampagers clutching dead loyalists to massive Abominants with custom bases depicting their victims, these projects showcase the darker side of knightly warfare.

And our skills as well. Enjoy!

Three Tales of Corruption

Each Chaos Knights commission we’ve completed represents a different approach to fallen nobility.

Some focus on dramatic conversions and storytelling, others embrace industrial corruption, and some combine custom bases with extensive freehand work to create truly unique centerpieces.

Commission #1: The Executioner's Prize - Converted Knight Rampager

This commission started with a simple request that became something much more dramatic. The client wanted a Knight Rampager, but as a grim mini-diorama.

The conversion work here centered on the Knight’s pose and its trophy. Chaos Knight clutches the lifeless form of an Ultramarines Terminator, examining its prize with the cold calculation of a predator. The positioning required careful planning to make the scene believable while maintaining the Knight’s stance.

The second showstopper is the extensive freehand work covering the armor plates. Our artist spent considerable time developing custom heraldry that speaks to this Knight’s dark allegiance. The symbols flow across the carapace and shoulder guards, creating a visual narrative of corruption and power.

Commission #2: Industrial Might - Knight Abominant and War Dog Pack

Sometimes clients want their Chaos forces to look less “obviously evil” and more “industrially menacing.” This commission took that approach perfectly.

The Knight Abominant leads a pack of War Dogs, all painted in a technical color scheme of grey armor plates accented with black and yellow hazard stripes. Think industrial facility meets war machine. The effect creates an army that looks like it rolled straight out of a forge world that decided the Imperium wasn’t paying well enough.

Commission #3: Custom Bases and Blood Freehands - The Complete Collection

This commission represents our most extensive Chaos Knights project. Five different Knights, each with custom bases and unique freehand work that pushes the boundaries of what these war machines can represent

Knight Despoiler: Tyranid Hunter

This Knight Despoiler stands triumphant over fallen Tyranid, crushing him into molten lava on its custom base. The freehand work draws inspiration from the Eye of Horus, creating iconography that speaks to ancient betrayals.

Modified Knight Rampager: Necron Tech Integration

This Chaos Knight Rampager on the other hand dealt with some Necrons before. He stays next to broken Doomsday Ark, and some dead Necrons awoken from slumber.

Only to meet their demise.

Knight Tyrant: Dreadnought Crusher

The Knight Tyrant demonstrates its superiority over loyalist forces by crushing an Ultramarines Dreadnought underfoot.

Poor Dread-now-dead-nought.

Knight Abominant: Trophy Display

This Abominant on the other hand likes to tear down some Ultramarines. The extensive freehand battle damage across its armor suggests this isn’t its first victory against loyalist forces.

Second Knight Abominant: Necron Foundations

The second Abominant in this force also incorporates Necron-influenced base work.
