"Do Custodes always have to be gold?"
That was the question a client asked us, and our answer was a definite "no." They had a vision for a force that was different from the box art, something darker and more unique than the traditional Auramite Gold. We took inspiration from one of the official Shield Hosts, the Shadowkeepers, keeping their black armor but swapping the usual red and gold elements for a cold, striking blue.
Our client loved the idea and gave us the green light. Since that first project, this custom black 'n blue scheme has become a studio favorite, and we've had the pleasure of painting entire armies in this pattern, proving that the Emperor's guardians look just as imposing in shadow as they do in gold.
