Secrets and Duty
Green Knights of Valor?
Problem-solvers among the Space Marines?
Or a secretive cult teetering on the edge of heresy?
You can see and define the Warhammer 40k Dark Angels army in many ways. Originally, the oldest of the Space Marine Chapters was meant to be what the Ultramarines are today: a shining example to follow and the strongest and most versatile Chapter in the Imperium. All of it shaped by the knightly traditions of their Primarch, Lion El’Jonson.
But everything changed with the Horus Heresy and the betrayal of nearly half the Dark Angels, later known as The Fallen. The loyalist Dark Angels made a drastic shift in their purpose, dedicating the next ten thousand years to hunting down the surviving Fallen. This mission is known only to the Chapter’s mysterious Inner Circle, as to the outside world they are still just a Chapter dutifully serving the Imperium.
And that divide between the initiated and the unknowing is reflected in the army showcased today, built around the relentless pursuit and eradication of The Fallen.
Because, as we’ll soon see, its leaders are very different from the ordinary battle-brothers.
Dark Angels Army on a Mission to Hunt the Fallen
Oath and Judgement - Inner Circle, Chaplain, and Judiciar
This is where the truth lies – or at least, where it is fiercely guarded. The Inner Circle Companions are keepers of the Chapter’s deepest secrets. They are likely the only ones who know the true purpose of the mission this Dark Angels force has been assigned to.
The Primaris Chaplain serves as the strategic leader of this force, guiding both tactics and faith.
And the Judiciar is the direct enforcer of the Chapter’s will. He ensures that all captured Fallen are delivered to the Interrogators for judgment.
Blades in the Shadows - Eliminators, Librarian, and Jump Pack Intercessors
Some enemies deserve to face the blade, others a bullet they never see coming.
The Eliminators are those silent killers, sniping from hidden positions while their Primaris Librarian guides them, weaving shadow and warp into a deadly combination.
Jump Pack Intercessors, on the other hand, are quick to jump into enemies and engage in melee combat.
Silent but deadly in Dark Angels Army - Reivers and Apothecary
Fear is a weapon, and the Reivers wield it like no other. Reivers are specialists, equipped for covert assaults, striking from behind enemy lines where the blow is least expected.
But even the deadliest warriors need someone to watch their backs. That’s where the Apothecary steps in. Not every brother survives the hunt, but those who fall are honored in death, their gene-seed preserved for the future of the Chapter. For the Reivers, every mission is a risk, but thanks to the Apothecary, their sacrifice is never in vain.
The Lion’s Wrath - Hellblasters, Heavy Intercessors, and Devastators
Sometimes stealth isn’t enough. Sometimes you need to bring the wrath of the Lion down on your enemies:
- Hellblasters – Armed with plasma incinerators, they shoot with heated blasts that melt through the enemy armor.
- Heavy Intercessors – Equipped with heavy bolt rifles, they provide heavy fire support.
- Devastators – Outfitted with heavy weapons like missile launchers, multi-meltas, and grav-cannons, they specialize in eliminating armored targets with high-impact shots.
Spearhead in the Shadows - Infiltrators and Captain in Phobos Armour
The Infiltrators are the core infantry of this force – versatile unit of highly trained Space Marines. They are meant to hold the line, while other specialist units does their job. They are lead by Captain in Phobos Armour.
Steel and Fire of Dark Angels Army - Brutalis Dreadnought, Invictor Warsuit, and Nephilim Jetfighter
All infantry need some heavy support from the ground and the skies.
The Brutalis Dreadnought is a fallen warrior reborn in iron, crushing anything that stands in its way with brutal close-combat power. Next to him you can see The Invictor Warsuit, piloted by a highly skilled Space Marine. Equipped with an incendium cannon and heavy stubber, this unit is ideal for engaging infantry at close range.
And above them all, the Nephilim Jetfighter provides air support, armed with twin lascannons and missiles to eliminate enemy armor and aircraft.
