The Astra Militarum: Humanity's Hammer in a Hostile Galaxy

The Astra Militarum, also known as the Imperial Guard, is the Imperium’s most vast and essential fighting force. Billions strong, these countless regiments stand as the first line of defense against a galaxy teeming with threats.

In this post we want to present to you the biggest Astra Militarum army we’ve ever painted.

Normally painting an army like this will take a lot of time, but as an experienced Studio we can handle it! So if you ever wondered about a huge army, wait no more and contact us!

An Endless Tide of Humanity

The Astra Militarum overwhelms enemies with sheer numbers. Supported by a massive arsenal of tanks and artillery, they often force their foes to surrender. This earns them the title “Hammer of the Emperor.” Their tactics are brutal but effective, a stark contrast to the precise strikes of the Space Marines, known as the “Scalpel of the Emperor.”

A Patchwork of Regiments

There’s no uniform look or structure within the Astra Militarum. Regiments hail from countless worlds, each with its own traditions and fighting styles. However, the legendary Cadian Shock Troops serve as a model for many regiments due to their effectiveness.

From Crusade to Hammer

The Astra Militarum has its roots in the Great Crusade, a time of galactic conquest led by the Emperor himself. Back then, the Space Marines were the primary force. As the Imperium expanded, manpower needs grew, leading to the creation of the Imperial Army, a vast force that fought alongside the Space Marines.

A Galaxy Torn Asunder

The Horus Heresy, a galactic civil war, shattered the old order. To prevent future rebellions, the Imperium reorganized its military. The Space Marines were divided into Chapters, and the Imperial Army was reformed as the Astra Militarum. Regiments became planet-based, and Commissars ensured loyalty. This separation of forces ensured that no single group could threaten the Imperium ever again.
