Very colorful WAAAAAGH of 3D Printed Orks for Warhammer 40k!
Orks never do anything halfway – their armies are BIG, LOUD, and packed with DAKKA.
And since we’re in the 41st Millennium, why not use 3D printing to make even more Orks? Like, they even reproduce with spores, so we aren’t that far from their origin, right?
So, today, we’re doing something different. Not just because of the project we’ve created, but also in how we present it. For the first time ever, we’re having… an interview (kinda), featuring our 3D Printed Orks!
Let’s welcome our guests: Lemmy “Ace of Dakka” Kilmasta and Slash “Gunz N’ Roozez” Rifflord.

“Oi there, ya gitz We’z ‘ere ta talk bout propa ork stuff – DAKKA, BITZ, an’ makin’ more of us!”
“Ello, lads. Yeh, wot ‘e said. Let’s keep it choppy an’ straight to da point, shall we?”

3D Printing – The Orky Beginning
3D printing an Ork army for Warhammer 40k opens up endless possibilities for custom armies, unique sculpts, and alternative models. It starts with finding the right files: premade STLs with model designs. We’ve decided to take files from Wargame Exclusive, Station Forge, Ghamak, and Malicious Minis.
By using 3D printing, we were able to create a truly custom Ork army, with unique sculpts that look different from the usual Warhammer 40k models. Whether you’re looking for alternative Ork miniatures, or a highly-detailed custom Ork Warboss, the flexibility of digital sculpting and printing gives you endless possibilities to expand your Boyz.

“Oi, our makerz wot built us knew wot dey woz doin’! Dey got all da best bitz, da sharpest teef, an’ da most propa choppy gear fer makin’ da biggest an’ meanest boyz!”

Once we had our files of 3D printed Orks, we loaded them into slicing software and tweaked the settings to get the perfect balance of layer height, print speed, and supports.
“Aight, so first, ya gotta get da settings right: da layer height woz small enuff fer propa detail, but big enuff ta keep da print strong. Print speed? Slow enuff ta keep da teef sharp, fast enuff so we don’t wait all day. Supports? Gotta place ‘em right, or ya end up wif a mess, instead of a propa ork. But once it’s all set up, out comes a krumpin’- ready boy!”

Since Orks need to be tough, we went with resin printing for highly detailed models, perfect for alternative Ork sculpts. This method captures every choppy blade and jagged armor plate, making sure our Boyz have more of a distinct look compared to traditional Games Workshop Orks. After printing, the models were washed and cured under UV light.
Putting the Boyz Together: Assembling the WAAAGH!
Once our 3D Orks were printed, it was time to assemble. Some of the models were printed as a single piece, while others came in separate parts that needed proper assembly. The level of detail was fantastic: every model had a distinct personality. We used cyanoacrylate glue to ensure every piece stayed in place, because if Orks are tough, glue used on them should be too.
“Not every ork came out in one piece, so we ‘ad ta do sum proper fixin’. Gud CA glue woz da best pick, ‘cos once it bonds, it’s tougher dan a Nob in mega armor. Ya gotta make sure da bitz line up right, or ya get a boy wot looks like ‘e lost a fight wif a squig.”

“Glue dat sticks like a mad dok’s surgery! Ya get it wrong, an’ yer boyz look like dey’z been stomped by a Stompa. But get it right, an’ BOOM—ya got a propa, fight-ready Ork wot won’t fall apart when ya start WAAAGH-in’!”

Painting Orks – DA COLORS MATTA!
Ork colors aren’t just paint. They have… meaning? It’s even something more, because if Orks believe in something, it just happens. So they believe:
- Red makes you faster
- Blue makes you more lucky
- Purple makes you more stealthy
- Black makes you tougher
- Yellow gives you wealth, or makes something explode more (many uses)
And so on.
“It’s simple ork logic. Red iz fasta, ‘cos da boyz who go fasta always paint demselves red. Blue is lucky, ‘cos da one time a grot dodged a shot, ‘e woz wearin’ blue. Yellow explodes more, ‘cos da flashier it is, da bigger da boom. Dat’s just WAAAGH! physics!”

So we’ve decided to paint our 3D Printed Orks in all kinds of colours, to make them overpowered in every aspect possible.
“Oi, look at me, I’z got all da colors! I’m da ULTIMATE ORK! Ain’t no hummie gonna stop me now rockin’!”

And there they are – our fully 3D-printed, assembled, and painted Orks, ready to storm the battlefield in all their colorful, dakka-packed glory. Seeing them all together, it’s clear that 3D printing opens up an incredible way to build an army that feels unique and full of personality. Every model tells a story, every bit of paint adds character.
